Nigeria is doomed if Buhari does nothing about the economy – Tinubu

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has said that Nigeria is doomed, if the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration does not reform the economy.

Tinubu said this while speaking on Tuesday in Lagos at the 9th Bola Tinubu Colloquium, organised by his friends and well-wishers to celebrate his 65th birthday, today, March 29.

Speaking on the theme of the colloquium ‘Use What We Make, Make What You Use’, the former Lagos Governor said: “There is widespread poverty, gross inequity, and high unemployment. I don’t see why this nation should continue to be poor with all its human capital and resources.

“Our challenges as a nation are manifold, but so are our capabilities, talent and resources, therefore we need to revolve the political economy in a manner that will put our huge population into productive use.

“If we do nothing to reform our economy, we are doomed as a nation.

“I know this administration has begun the process of salvaging the economy through reforms, but we need to create that enabling environment and make credit facilities accessible for creative individuals.

“Not only must we use what we make and make what we use, we must make what the world values.

Tinubu also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for temporarily transferring power to vice-president Yemi Osinbajo during his medical vacation in London.

“I want to applaud President Muhammadu Buhari for meticulously following the constitution in temporarily transferring power to his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“As such, these two excellent men exemplified teamwork and the true meaning of unity of purpose.

“Buhari set the pace by giving strategic direction to the VP and Osinbajo performed excellently well while the president was away by putting action into what the president told him to do,” he said.

Argentina angry over timing of FIFA’s four-match ban on Messi

Argentina head coach, Edgardo Bauza, has criticized FIFA for handing Lionel Messi a four-match ban just six hours, before his side were beaten 2-0 by Bolivia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Juan Carlos Arce and Marcelo Martins scored as Bolivia won comfortably at the Estadio Hernando Siles, jeopardising Argentina’s hopes of qualifying.

However, much of the pre-match talk centred around their captain, who had been handed a four-match ban for abusing an assistant referee during last Thursday’s win over Chile.

“When the rumour began to settle, the concern began to take on more volume,” Bauza said following the loss.

“It seemed strange that in one day everything could be done, that we did not have time to make an appeal.

“We did not have time to work with someone else. Now the corresponding procedure for the appeal is being processed.”

With Colombia and Chile both winning, Argentina slipped to fifth in the South American qualification race.

Speaking about the Bolivia match, Bauza admitted his team did not play well in the first half.

“We try to get prominence to Bolivia, the second half the team improved slightly,” he added.

“Bolivia won well. We must think in what’s coming. We are alive and wanting to qualify for the World Cup.

“We know that this is going to be a struggle and we will keep fighting.”

The traumatised girl dropped out of school at Class Four after her ordeal and says she is being haunted by the dastardly incident which has left her with life-threatening complications.
Her revelations come as the police arrested a third suspect, Awudu Kamiru, an 18-year-old head porter. The victim was strangled by her five men attackers in an attempt to murder her after having sexual intercourse with her in turns.

But a Good Samaritan who found her in an unconscious state in the Trado stream saved her life. That act has since left her with walking difficulties whilst she bleeds profusely from her private parts.
Police have so far arrested three suspects in connection with the act.
Twenty-five-year-old cobbler and ex-convict Yaw Preko and a driver’s mate, Mohammed Adamu were the first two to be arrested and arraigned before an Nkawkaw Magistrates Court.
The two, who have since pleaded for leniency after admitting to the offence of defilement, conspiracy to commit crime and attempted murder. are expected back in court on April 7, 2017.
A third suspect, Awudu Kamiru, was arrested over the weekend after Adamu led police to his hideout. Kamiru has been identified by the victim as the one who kicked her down before leading to her attack.
Nkawkaw Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Sarfo Peprah says efforts are underway to arrest two more suspects who are at large. Two other persons said to have taken part in the gang rape have been identified only as Junior and Sarfo.
