Why Magu has a more challenging job than Buhari, Saraki – Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo governor, has described the job of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as the most challenging in Nigeria.

According to the ex-governor, Magu’s job is more tasking than those of President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Speaking on Monday at the first national anti-corruption stakeholders’ summit at the EFCC Academy in Abuja, he said, “You have the most difficult and challenging job in this country today; more challenging than the job of a governor, the job of a President, the job of a Senate President or any other person because those ones are clearly defined and the values are there but this one is really problematic.”

Oshiomhole also said the anti-corruption efforts of the present administration was not selective, citing instances to back his position.

“In the past we were made to believe that you could not probe the armed forces because of security reasons because they could overthrow; so, army accounts were never touched. But we are beginning to see changes. Today, even former service chiefs are being made to account for fighting the money that was meant for insurgency but diverted and kept in pit latrines,” he said.

“I can see both people in opposition and government being made to give account.”

The former labour leader also said the fight against corruption cannot be won through an individualistic approach.

He called for synergy between anti-corruption agencies, urging them to endeavour to share intelligence.

“We are all witnesses to the fact that individualistic approach has not taken us anywhere.

“How can we win the fight against corruption without casualties? There has to be collaboration among anti-corruption agencies, all the agencies involved in the fight against corruption must have to share intelligence,” Oshiomhole said.

REVEALED: Why Obasanjo’s wife filed suit to stop son’s wedding

aiwo Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday filed a suit at an Ikeja high court, seeking to stop the wedding of her son, Olujonwo, scheduled for May 11.

Ex-President Obasanjo and the father of the bride, Kessington Adebutu, promoter of premier lotto known as ‘Baba Ijebu’ are respondents to the suit.

The woman, who is the twin sister of Kenny Martins, former coordinator of the Police Equipment Fund, is seeking a postponement of the wedding of her son.

She wants the wedding to be fixed for a date after June 1.

Olujonwo and Tope had an elaborate introduction on December 17, 2016 with the social media awash with photographs of the event.

Obasanjo, among others, is seeking a court declaration that as the mother of the groom, she had the rights to take part in the deliberations, decisions and activities leading to the forthcoming ceremony.

According to her, wedding invitations have been sent out and she has been excluded from the preparations for the ceremonies.

She said she also received prophesies and warnings from men of God to the effect that Olujonwo, her son who turns 34 on June 1, should not do or be involved in any elaborate celebration before his birthday.

The woman wants the court to compel Adebutu and Obasanjo to shift the wedding to a date after June 1.

She had appealed to Adebutu and Rosemary Dacosta, mother of the bride, Tope Adebutu, the bride-to-be as well as Kenny Martins.

Lateefa Okunnu, a justice, has fixed April 10 for hearing of the suit no. ID/262FPM/2017.

Satanic forces will overrun Nigeria if Buhari dies – Bishop Azogu

The General Overseer, Our Sanctuary Gospel Church, Bishop Udo Azogu has warned that if President Muhammadu Buhari dies, Satanic forces of darkness will overrun Nigeria.

Addressing his congregation during a church service in Lagos, Azogu urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the President to overcome his health challenges so as to defeat the dark satanic forces.

The clergyman insisted that Buhari’s Presidency was ordained from heaven.

According to Azogu, ‘‘God in the revelation warned that if Buhari dies, the forces of darkness with ‘black and white banner’ will overrun Nigeria.

‘‘God revealed that a satanic organization will try to take over the reins of government by force but, that the church should pray against it. The spiritual symbol of the satanic group is dragon.

‘‘God has equipped President Buhari to counter the evil forces. If Buhari dies, Nigeria will be in serious trouble.’’

Azogu appealed to the President to terminate the ongoing prosecution against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly.

‘‘The ongoing prosecution of Saraki does not portray Nigeria in good light and does not reflect genuine fight against graft in the eyes of enlightened Nigerians.

‘‘Nigerians will benefit more when the Presidency and the leadership of the National Assembly work cooperatively together in a transparent manner to fix the economy,’’ the clergyman added.

Sergio Ramos: I won’t be retiring anytime soon

Sergio Ramos has insisted he will not follow Spain team-mate Gerard Pique into international retirement after the 2018 World Cup.

The Real Madrid captain turns 31 this Thursday, but insists he still has “many years left” at the top.

Ramos is expected to feature in Spain’s friendly game against France in Paris on Tuesday, when he will win his 142nd cap.

His usual central defence partner, Pique, has however confirmed he will quit the national team after next year’s World Cup.

“I am in the middle of my career,” Ramos said at a media conference.

“I have many years left at a good level. Each season I reset myself to start from scratch, not settling for what I’ve already won.

“As long as I continue to want to win, both in the national team and in the club, I will continue playing. I hope it’s the longest possible time — I see it [retirement] far in the future.”
