Shehu Sani – Why northerners are lazy & unproductive

The senator representing Kaduna Central District at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has blamed tsome northerners for being lazy and unproductive on the mentality of federalism which supports the undue dependence for survival on a central government.

Sani said this in Abuja while receiving the leaders of Women Connect Initiatives (WCI) in his office yesterday.

He said governments in the Northern region needed to lead the people by examples by being less-dependent on federal allocation.

According to him, this situation was responsible for the continued agitation by states in the Niger Delta who were seeking equity in sharing the nation’s common wealth.

Sani explained that: “Nigeria is moving into a new phase in its history as a country and as a people. The era of oil money is almost over. The federal system we have today is one in which people go to Abuja to collect money. This should not be the case.

“Northerners who have oil wells use the money for themselves and keep the poor impoverished. The only people who have benefited from the structure we have today are the elites, both in the north and south.

“All parts of Nigeria must be involved in generating revenue for the country. This would make everyone have a sense of belonging.

“We cannot live in a society where one part contributes and the other does not. That is injustice. The agitation by people of the Niger Delta is right. Even if there is oil in the northern part of Nigeria, other people have the right to demand for justice in the same country.

“The poverty and degradation in the Niger Delta is a colossal injustice to the people of that part of the country. But, unfortunately, the poor people in the north have also not benefited from the oil revenue.

“Until we amend the constitution to force all regions in the country to make equal contribution to the national purse, the agitation by indigenes of the Niger Delta may not stop and this would affect the growth and development of the nation.”

Orji Uzor Kalu slams ex-party: I own 90 percent of PDP

A former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has slammed his estranged party, the People’s Democratic Party for treating him with utter disdain despite being one of the foundation members.

Orji Uzor Kalu, who pitched his tent with the ruling All Progressives Congress in November 2016, ‎said he gave the party its first N500m and supported the election of former President Olusegun Obasanjo with N100m.

He added that if the PDP were a company, he owned 90 per cent of its share.

Kalu was the governor of Abia State under the umbrella of the PDP between 1999 to 2007.

The ex-governor made this known on Monday in Washington DC, United States of America, during a dinner.

He said, “All of you know that if the PDP were a company, I ought to own 90 per cent of it because in 1998, I gave the party its first N500m.

“By then, I wasn’t in government. I also gave the presidential candidate, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, over N100m in 1998.

“How many Nigerians would have done that? Yet the same government, the same PDP, took my bank, took my airline, took my oil licence to put me out of business entirely because I proposed that I must run for president in 2007; I also opposed the 3rd term, which they are denying today.”

Kalu, who spoke on many issues, ranging from his trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, fight against corruption in Nigeria, the economy, hailed judges in the US for their courage, urging Nigerian judges to emulate them.

He said the PDP hunted him for his ambition to run for the office of the president in 2007 and for opposing the third term agenda of Obasanjo.

#BBNaija Update: How Efe became Ultimate Head of House

Big Brother Naija housemate, Efe has emerged the Ultimate Head of House, a new title introduced into the reality show.
According to ‘Biggie’, the title will have its full meaning, rights and privileges revealed on Monday Night.

Efe won the title by being the first housemate to successfully pop as many balloons that contained the alphabets needed to spell ‘Head of House’ from an Arena full of balloons.

In this week’s HoH challenge, Biggie opted for a game of patience.

Bally looked daunted by the sheer volume of balloons in front of him as he discussed the futility of the task ahead with Bisola.

TBoss obviously wanted to win task as each piece of paper containing an alphabet that didn’t correspond to what she needed was thrown to the floor angrily.

Debie-Rise came close. She desperately searched for the letter “d,” so close yet so far. But eventually, a triumphant Efe held his spelt words and was pronounced the new Head of House.
It could be recalled that Bassey became last week’s Head of the Big Brother Naija house through a game of chance that involved picking a blue stone from a table of variously coloured stones covered with plastic cups.

Buhari has never been corrupt – Presidency

The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie has stressed that Buhari has never been involved in corrupt acts to enrich himself.

Onochie stated this in reaction to concerns by some Nigerians over the recent order by the President that the second tranche of the Paris club refund be released to state governors.

The Presidential aide explained that the directive was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of Nigerian workers.

Onochie, who took to her Facebook page stressed that the President was not a businessman and had always depended on his salary.

She wrote: ”Our President Muhammadu Buhari is not a businessman. He has never been involved in doing business.

”He has never been involved in sharp corrupt practices to unfairly line his pockets, all his life.

”He has always worked in areas where he earned salaries. That’s how he managed his family finances. Salaries.

”So he can never understand how families are expected to survive this harsh economic realities when they go month by month, without their salaries.

“President Buhari has run out of patience with Governors who are owing salaries and has ordered CBN, Finance Ministry to release the Paris Club refunds to states immediately.”

She, however, urged Nigerians in states where salaries are owed to rise and speak out against such action.

“Nigerians in the states where salaries are owed, must become active citizens by insisting that their salaries be paid.

“They must camp in front of the government houses, peacefully till their salaries are fully paid.

“Enough of this taking Nigerians for a ride. Let’s stop making excuses for those who are standing on our heads,” she added.

Obafemi: Gernot Rohr is making NPFL players look inferior

Former Nigeria international, Abiodun Obafemi, has said that the head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, is making players from the Nigeria Professional Football League players look inferior to their foreign counterparts.

Rohr invited 25 players for the Eagles’ friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London next week, including only one player from the domestic league.

“If I have the chance to meet and advice Rohr, I will tell him to adopt Westerhof’s style,” Obafemi told Goal.

“I don’t want a situation when you start to place status on the national team – this is home based and the professional. It is demeaning and brings some kind of inferiority complex to the team.

“He will begin to make them look inferior. Watching the Nigerian league so far, the standard is getting better and better. I believe the local players will rub shoulders with the foreign pros.

“I have seen a lot of fantastic players. Before now, I don’t enjoy watching the Nigeria Professional Football league but recently my opinion is changing as regards to the quality of players in the local league.

“I think he should give them to the opportunity to play. If you don’t use them, how will you know their quality? I want them to be treated the same as the foreign pros. Using CHAN tournament for home-based is not good enough for them.”
