Nigerian students in India cry out – “Help us, our lives are in danger” [Photos]

Following continuous attacks on Nigerian living in New Delhi, India, some Nigerian students in that country have cried out that their lives are in danger just as the Nigerian High Commission there has not done anything to protect them

This call is coming on the heel of recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans living in the Asian country, India, following the death of a teenager identified as Manish Khari, who was found dead outside his house in NSG colony of Greater Noida.

The family members of the deceased alleged that five Nigerians had kidnapped him and drugged him, leading to his death.

Hindustan Times reports that the family members staged a protest on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Kasna police station demanding that the suspects be arrested immediately.

On the evening of Monday, March 27, the family with the support from locals in the area, organized a candlelight march and when the crowd reached Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, few protestors attacked a car passing by with four African people.

That same Monday, four Nigerian students were reportedly mobbed by locals with some of them beaten with sticks and chairs till they became unconscious in the presence of security men who did not go to their aid.

Three Nigerian students, Endurance Amarawa, Ibgiya Malu Chukwuma and Precious Amalcima were seriously injured during the attack from the crowd.

With the seeming apathy of the Nigerian government and the reluctance of their High Commission to wade into the matter, the Nigerian students in the area have cried out that their lives are in danger.

One of such students shared details of the attack and what they are currently going through in the hands of the Indians:

“I am a student of Sharda University in Greater Noida, India. On Saturday, March 25th, 2017, an Indian teenager of class 12 was reported dead due to cardiac arrest caused by drug overdose.

His parents began to suspect that his Nigerian friends were the people who supplied the drugs to him.

His family reported to the police officers about the current situation. The police later picked up the 5 Nigerian students for questioning.

After further investigations, no evidence was found to link the students to the incident, so they were released.

On Monday, 27th March 2017, in the evening, a Nigerian student from Benin went to Ansal plaza in Greater Noida, India, to purchase something. On getting there, he was attacked by over 200 Indians and was beaten seriously with all sorts of things.

And this happened in a mall! Was there no security? It was really BRUTAL! He was later rescued by the police and taken to the hospital.

Later that evening, a person from Eastern Nigeria (Igbo) was attacked in his car, by breaking of his car glass in order to penetrate and he was beaten seriously and injured.

Ever since this incident, the African Union of India has instructed all Africans to remain indoor till further notice.

1. We are unable to go to school for lectures.

2. We are unable to buy food stuff.

3. We have been indoors for the past 2 days with the fear of losing our lives. It’s totally unbearable. We are only hoping on GOD. Our lives are in danger.”

President of the Association of African Students in India, Samuel Jack has also condemned the attack in a press briefing by saying:

This is a hate crime on the African community in the country; locals in Greater Noida say that they do not want Africans in their country anymore.

Tragic! Nigerian man dies in India after fight with former landlord

A 36-year-old Nigerian man identified as Igwe Francis, has died under mysterious circumstances, moments after he got into a scuffle with his former landlord, in Southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, on January 6th, 2017.
Francis reportedly got into an argument with his former landlord, Liaquat Ali, who claimed he owed him Rs 30,000 in rent.
The two then got into a scuffle, following which Francis tried to run away. But after running 200 metres, he collapsed on the road, police said, citing eyewitnesses. He was rushed to a hospital nearby, but it didn’t have life-saving equipment.
Francis was then taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. DCP (southwest) Surender Kumar said initial investigation revealed Francis had bruises on his body.
“As per the initial report doctors gave us, he had an injury on the back of his head. We are yet to establish if he hurt himself or if he was beaten up. We have questioned at least 25 people, but none of them said he was beaten up. We are conducting a thorough investigation,” said the DCP.
He said the Ministry of External Affairs has been informed about the incident. Ali is being questioned and investigation will be complete within 30 days, Kumar said. Police sources said a case was filed after the medical report revealed a head injury.
On January 8, Ali was booked under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The case was filed on the basis of a complaint by the victim’s brother, whom he called minutes before he collapsed.
According to the FIR, Francis said over the phone that he was “being attacked”. The brother, who did not wish to be named, said,
“I received a call from him that his previous landlord was harassing him. He called me again saying he was being attacked and needed my help. A few minutes later,  when I arrived, I found him lying unconscious on the road.”
He alleged that Francis was dragged inside a garage and beaten up by three people. “He managed to escape but collapsed on the road,” he said.

Indian fan club goes into wild jubilation as Trump wins US Election

A far-right Hindu group ( a Trump fan club) were sent into raptures when Donald Trump was declared winner of the US presidential election. Even they, could not have boldly predicted this.

Vishnu Gupta, chief of the ultra-nationalist ‘Hindu Sena’ outfit, said supporters had taken to the streets to bang traditional drums even before Trump claimed victory and would also distribute celebratory sweets.

Trump’s hardline rhetoric towards Muslims has found favour in some quarters in India, the world’s largest democracy which has had its fair share of tensions between the majority Hindu population and its Muslim minority.

Trump has called for a ban on all Muslims entering the United States and Gupta said his message had wide resonance.

“We predicted that he would win five days ago — there is a huge support for him, his ideas, and we could see that,” Gupta told AFP.

“Now terrorists will be hunted everywhere in the world, even if they go and hide in a cave. Now only God can help Pakistan. India will now have the support of the US in our efforts against terrorists. We will be together in this.

“Donald Trump will do what no other US president has been able to do before. We are happy. All terrorists should now run and hide.”

Gupta’s group held a special prayer session for Trump in New Delhi back in May when he was seen as a long shot for the presidency, hailing him as a “fighter and a saviour of humanity”.

They also celebrated his birthday in June with a cake, balloons and posters.

Tragic! Nigerian student stabbed by gang while waiting for cab in India

23-year-old Nigerian college student identified as Bella was allegedly stabbed by a gang of five while she was waiting for a cab at Hennur, India on July 31.
According to Bella, who sustained a stab injury on her hand, the incident happened when she and her female friends were waiting for an Ola cab near Challakere Bridge at Hennur at 11.30 pm on that fateful day.
A car suddenly came to a screeching halt in front of them and a group of men alighted from the vehicle. They allegedly tried to strike a conversation with them, but police said it was not clear from her complaint what the conversation was all about.

According to police, the accused took out a knife and tried to stab on her abdomen, but Bella fought back and ended up sustaining a cut on her hand. The gang fled the spot when she was profusely bleeding and her friends raised an alarm.

Bella was taken to Live Line hospital and treated for her injury. She reported the case to the police and requested them to take action on the gang of five persons. However, police could not trace her after she was discharged from the hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police (East) N Satish Kumar said:

“We have taken up the case seriously and are investigating it. The attackers will be caught at the earliest.”

According to Hennur police, Bella and her friend were heavily drunk and they were not in a position to tell where they were heading for. (though they allege they were looking for a cab) Taking advantage of their drunken behaviour, the gang may have sought sexual favours from them. That could have led to the stabbing incident, as per the police, Bangalore Mirror reports.

Though there is a CCTV camera installed nearby, the police could not obtain the registration number of the vehicle the miscreants had come in. When police visited the spot, locals told them that Bella and her friends are often found at the same place late night.

“We have contacted the Nigerian association and requested them to bring Bella so that we can get details on the appearance of miscreants and on what context the gang approached and what went wrong on that day. They have assured to bring her to the station and we are waiting.” said Hennur police.
